Content Management
New Media Mill's implementation of Drupal, an amazing open-source utility, revolutionizes how organizations add content to their websites. Gone are the internal bottlenecks common when important content had to wait until a "webmaster" could create the "code" necessary to present text on a website.
The Drupal content management system equips everyone, interns and executives, with a simple tool to create web content. The What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get editor styles text, headlines, images, even links to streaming media. All users need is a web browser, an Internet connection, and the proper level of permission.
Drupal enjoys the largest development community that we are aware of, and it has been growing faster than virtually any single software project in the world. Indeed, part of Drupal's strength is that it draws from developers in every part of the globe who share and test the code that is created. As with many open source systems, Drupal is based on web standard PHP and MYSQL. No piece of code is included in the updated builds of Drupal until it has been tested and deployed in Beta by this far-flung development community.
Having outstripped all other content management systems in terms of capability and evolution, Drupal is currently used by thousands of sites including Sony BMG, MTV UK, Fast Company, Popular Science, and Amnesty International.
A robust administrative interface can be used by colleagues to "vet" content before making it live to the web. The administrative interface can be used to assign different levels of permission to individuals, endowing some with the right to edit and/or publish content while others are permitted only to write content for others to review. Both the content and the presentation can be individualized based on user-defined preferences.
Among the many other features, the content management system also:
- Creates e-mail newsletters from content posted to the website.
- Exports your site's content in RSS/RDF format for others to gather.
- Searches content based on advanced hierarchical algorithms.
The content management system is based on open source languages PHP and MYSQL. The underlying code is not proprietary and is not owned by New Media Mill. This means any programmer familiar with these languages can be hired to alter or update these languages. There are many enhancements available to the basic content management system.
