Even Start

Education leaders from 36 states gathered throughout 2005 for an exchange of ideas about solving adult illiteracy – but never left their office.

The training was brought to them in living color, on their computers, real time, thanks to New Media Mill’s live web casting service. Solutions to adult illiteracy are rapidly evolving, helped in part by millions of federal research dollars. The US Department of Education and the Center for Family booked three live audio/video sessions in 2005 so this cutting edge research could be shared and discussed with education professionals in the states.

As researchers and experts presented their findings “on set” in Washington DC, state education leaders watched, listened and fired off questions via e-mail. The web casts logged more than 700 unique visitors. New Media Mill’s redundant and geographically dispersed web casting network ensured there were no hiccups in service over a total of 5 hours of live web casting. New Media Mill sets itself apart from the crowd by offering geographically dispersed, redundant web casting. That means encoders, servers and transmission lines are located in at least two geographically separated locations. If one location suffers a failure, the program seamlessly rolls over to the backup system.

“It’s Kevlar web casting for those times when you absolutely, without exception need to reach your audience,” says New Media Mill Managing Partner Stew Harris.

New Media Mill’s production team also designed the set, scripted sections of the web casts and managed incoming email and pre-event registration. Our seasoned production staff—many with experience at the national broadcast networks—created a format that combined the accuracy of pre-taped sessions followed by a live segment the opportunity for real-time exchanges with the web cast audience.
